Canyon News Network is made up of a small group of advanced students who write, produce, shoot, edit, and broadcast a daily morning news show for the staff and students of Canyon High School. Students in the concentrating and capstone courses will participate in Canyon News Network.

Knowledge

Students in the Video Production pathway are introduced to the three stages of production, basic and advanced camera angles and movements, editing techniques, and career opportunities.  Beginning students also analyze different award winning films and documentaries.  

Skills

Students use industry standard cameras, audio, and lighting to produce both short video projects as well as longer films and news segments.  Students also use industry standard technology and software to edit their projects and build their skills in production.

Experience

Throughout their course of study, students have the opportunity to gain both simulated and real world work experience.  Advanced students produce a daily live news program, and create videos for real world clients including PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs.  In addition, students have the opportunity to attend national conferences and competitions with Student Television Network.
